Rod Steiger (April 14, 1925 - July 9, 2002), was an Academy Award-winning American actor. Born in New York, Mr. Steiger trained as an actor at the legendary Actor’s Studio in New York City. Over his long and varied career, Mr. Steiger earned dozens of awards and nominations for his work on stage, screen, and television. Notable film roles include Al Capone in Richard Wilson’s Al Capone (1959); the title role in The Pawnbroker (1964); Key Largo (1946) with Humphrey Bogart, and an Academy Award winning turn in In The Heat of the Night (1967). Mr. Steiger also made appearances in dozens of made-for-television films over the course of his career, notably in Linda Lovelace (1953), and the highly acclaimed miniseries, The Martian Chronicles (1980). Mr. Steiger's last film roles were Operation Dumbo Drop (1995) and Mars Attacks! (1996). Mr. Steiger passed away on July 9, 2002 at the age of 77. He is survived by his daughter, Antonia Steiger.
