Fred MacMurray (August 30, 1908 – November 5, 1991) died peacefully at the age of 83. He was most known for his roles in such classics as The Absent-Minded Professor (1961), My Three Sons (1960-1972), and The Shaggy Dog (1959). MacMurray was born in Kankakee, Illinois and worked in his father’s sheet music store as a teen. After his father’s business failed, MacMurray moved to Los Angeles and began a career in filmmaking in the 1930s. He quickly became a successful actor, taking leading roles in the 1940s alongside Hollywood stars like Jean Arthur, Joan Crawford, Betty Grable, and Katharine Hepburn. He most often portrayed likable characters who were friendly and often envied for their successful lives. His films were widely accepted, and he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1944 for the film The Miracle of Morgan's Creek. MacMurray passed away after a long and illustrious career in film, leaving behind a strong legacy of performances that will be remembered for years to come.
