George VI, the former King of England and Emperor of India, passed away on February 6, 1952 at the age of 56. Having become King on December 11, 1936, he took the throne after his elder brother Edward VIII abdicated the Crown. During his sixteen-year reign, George VI was married to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Together they had two daughters, Elizabeth II and Margaret. Throughout his reign as King, George was supportive of democracy and was a unifying influence during difficult political times. He was known for his strong commitment to duty and is fondly remembered for his humbleness and willingness to serve his country. Throughout World War II, George was a strong and vocal leader in which he and his family served as morale boosters for the troops abroad. George will be remembered among the British people for his wit, his straightforward approach, and his dedication to duty. He was an important part of British history who is deeply admired for his devotion to service.
