The sorrowful news of the passing of Georgia Engel was received with much distress. On the night of April 12th, 2019 at the age of 70, Georgia Engel, beloved actress and comedian, died peacefully in her sleep following a brief illness. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Georgia Engel began her career as a stage actress in the 1960s in various off-Broadway and Broadway plays. Her career reached new heights in the 1970s when she began appearing on television and film. Georgia’s most memorable television roles included Georgette Franklin Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Pat MacDougall on Everybody Loves Raymond. Georgia received several Emmy and Tony nominations for her roles, and was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Actors' Equity Association. Beyond her career in acting, Georgia was a caring and generous person who enjoyed cooking and sewing and had a hobby of playing bridge. She is survived by her sister, Robin Engel; her three nieces, Tracey, Lauren, and Alex; and her great-niece and nephews. A memorial service to honor the life of Georgia Engel will be held on Saturday, April 27th, at 2 pm at Oakdale Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
