Jack Churchill, born in Hong Kong in 1907, passed away at the age of 89 on March 8, 1996. He was a highly decorated World War II veteran, one of the few Allied soldiers of the beat to go into battle with a sword and longbow. Earning the motto, "Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed", Churchill commanded with a unique style. He was a larger-than-life figure who inspired the rest of his unit with his determination, enthusiasm, courage, and sense of humour. He was captured and held as a Prisoner of War, but had managed to avoid injury during his wartime service. In spite of his bravery and gregariousness, Jack Churchill was never promoted above the rank of major during his service. He was also an accomplished athlete, competing in rowing, boxing, and athletics when he was younger. Civilian life saw him serving as an officer in the Home Guard and Civil Defence until his retirement. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

For life be, after all, only a waitin’ for somethin’ else than what we’re doin’; and death be all that we can rightly depend on. Bram Stoker
