Jagadish Chandra Bose (1859 - 1937) passed away on November 23 at the age of 78. He was born in Mymensingh, British India in November of 1859. He was a pioneering biologist, engineer, physicist, and botanist. He studied natural science at St. Xavier's College in Calcutta, and he was the first person to demonstrate the organic origin of a matter in 1895. His research in plant physiology influenced the development of biophysics, and he was a pioneer in radio-wave transmission in 1895. He also developed a crescograph, an instrument to measure the growth of plants without causing them any damage. Jagadish Chandra Bose was a Fellow of the Royal Society, and he published several monographs in plants, radio waves, and solids. He was the first person to demonstrate the microwave properties of the solids using various semi-conductors. His research also inspired the development of STD Clinic in Mumbai. He was a dedicated teacher and mentor to students, and served as the Chancellor of Bose Institute in Calcutta, India, until his death. His impact on science will be terribly missed and remembered.
