It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of James Montgomery Doohan, in Richmond, British Columbia, on July 20, 2005, at the age of 85. He was a Canadian actor, best known for his portrayal of Scotty in the TV and film series Star Trek. Doohan was born in March 1920 in Vancouver, British Columbia. After completing two years of high school, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the Canadian Army. During his service in World War II, he was shot by friendly fire at the Battle of Juno Beach. He was hit by six of the seven shots fired, with the seventh shots hitting his lochaber axe he was holding; saving him from further injury. After the war, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. Doohan is considerably known for his role as Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott in Star Trek, The Original Series. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous television shows and films. He was predeceased by his former wife Janet Young, and is survived by his current wife Wende Doohan, and his three sons Larkin, Deilling, Montgomery and Christopher. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
