Jean Simmons, aged 80, passed away on January 22nd, 2010. She was an acclaimed actress with a film career spanning nearly 70 years. Simmons began her career as a child actress in the 1940s and starred in over 60 films throughout her life, winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 1960 for her role in The Happy Ending. She also won an Emmy for her role in The Thorn Birds in 1983 and starred in many television series throughout her career. Her memorable performances include those in the classic films Great Expectations, Hamlet, Spartacus, Guys and Dolls, and Elmer Gantry, and she was also known for her role as Anitra Cyon in Death of a Privateer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Granger, and is survived by her daughter, Tracy Granger, and two grandchildren. Simmons' legacy as an actress will long be remembered.
