Jeff Healey, an influential singer-songwriter, guitarist, and musician in the blues and jazz genres, passed away on March 2nd, 2008 at the age of 41. He had a remarkable career, performing live and releasing eight studio albums since his debut major-label album in 1988. Born in Toronto in 1966, Healey began to fight cancer in his eyes at age one, causing him to lose his sight. Undeterred, Healey embraced music, learning the guitar and playing professionally with his band at age 16. He built a world-renowned career as a convincing blues and jazz guitarist, including memorable collaborations with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and other notable performers. Healey was awarded in several occasions including a Grammy nomination and a Juno award. He became renowned for his classic Muddy Waters rendition of "Mystery Train" (1988-89). Healey was also a renowned actor, playing in the film Road House (1989) and performing in the soundtracks of films such as Music from the Edge (1996) and Cotton Club (1985). Healey's enthusiasm for music inspired people around the world and his legacy will live on.
