With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joe Strummer, on December 22nd, 2002. Joe was born in Turkey to a British diplomat in August of 1952 and eventually moved to London. The world has lost a great musician, innovator and creative mind. During his lifetime, Joe Strummer was a part of numerous musical projects, most famously as the lead singer and guitar of the band The Clash. Under his influence, the group created Punk Rock anthems which transformed the music industry. As well as being an immensely talented guitarist and songwriter, Joe was also renowned for his kind and generous spirit. He had a passion to use his talents to benevolently serve the punk rock movement, and music industry as a whole. He founded the UK’s first Punk Rock fanzine, and worked effortlessly as a social activist and musician. Joe Strummer touched countless lives in a profound way and will always be remembered for his immense passion for music and social movements. He leaves behind his wife, Lucinda; his daughters Jazz, Lola and Lizzie; and his stepdaughter, Gabrielle. He also leaves behind a legacy of the music he created, and which continues to touch so many lives. "The future is unwritten." - Joe Strummer, 1952-2002
