John Banner, 63, passed away on January 28, 1973. He is survived by his family. John was born on a farm near the town of Clarkendale, Mississippi on February 6, 1909. He attended local schools and also furthered his education at Mississippi State University. John was known for his hard work and for his devoted service to the community of Clarkendale, as he was the mayor of the town from 1950 - 1960. He also served people from his church and local chapter of the Lions club. John was an avid fisherman, hunter, and collector of antiques. He was an all-around handyman, loved going to church, and enjoyed reading his Bible and singing gospel music. John's favorite pastime was gardening and he took great pride in it. He was well-respected by those who knew him and he will be remembered for his generosity and strong sense of community.
