John Hurt, the renowned British actor, died on January 27, 2017, at the age of 77. He was known for his versatile roles in many films and theater performances. Hurt was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. He studied at York School of Art, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and RADA Company of London. In 1962, he was cast in the play “Romeo and Juliet” and made his film debut in A Man for All Seasons (1966). He was acclaimed for his role as John Merrick in The Elephant Man in 1980 and was nominated for an Oscar and won two Brit awards. He also won two Golden Globe Awards for television movies before appearing in Harry Potter and The HIT (2005). Other films that he appeared in include Alien (1979), The Naked Civil Servant (1975), A Man for All Seasons (1966), Contact (1997), and V for Vendetta (2005). In addition to his film and television appearances, he was the narrator of many audio books. He appeared in more than 200 films and TV productions, and his work was recognized with awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He also received two Honorary Doctor of Letters from The University of Derby and the University of York. John Hurt was beloved for his displayed dedication to the industry, having won an Academy Award nomination and other prestigious awards throughout his career. He will be remembered as a highly talented actor whose influence lives on for generations.
