John Hillerman, beloved actor best known for his role as Jonathan Higgins on Magnum, P.I., died peacefully on November 9, 2017 in his home in Houston, Texas. He was 84. Born on December 20, 1932 in Denison, Texas, Hillerman attended the University of Texas at Austin on a journalism scholarship and worked in radio, theater, and television in the 1950s before landing his breakout role as Higgins on Magnum, P.I. in 1980. He received much acclaim for the role, winning an Emmy, three Golden Globe nominations, and four Emmy nominations. Hillerman's ability to bring charm and humor to the character of the cantankerous Higgins is credited with making the series a favorite of millions of fans. After Magnum, P.I., Hillerman acted in over thirty films and various television series, including a guest stint on Murder, She Wrote and a role in Braveheart. Hillerman received various award nominations throughout his distinguished career and was well respected and admired by co-stars and fans alike. John Hillerman will be remembered as a talented performer whose loyalty, dedication, and commitment to his craft set an inspiring example for all those he worked with. He is sadly missed by his friends and family.
