John Wayne, born Marion Robert Morrison on May 26, 1907 in Winterset, Iowa, passed away on June 11, 1979 in Los Angeles, California, at 72 years old. John was an iconic American actor who starred in over 175 films. He was dedicated to his craft and brought unforgettable characters to life through the course of his long and celebrated career. He is best remembered for his roles in classics like 1939’s “Stagecoach,” 1943’s “The Raid,” 1949’s “The Sands of Iwo Jima,” 1956’s “The Searchers,” and 1969’s “True Grit.” He received numerous honors throughout his life, including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, two Best Actor awards, Three Best Supporting Actor awards, and a Special Screen Actor’s Guild honor. He was also the recipient of the People’s Choice Award and the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal.
