John Eleuthère du Pont, 72, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2010. Born January 22, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John was a true renaissance man. He was a collector of art, a patron of the arts, a naturalist, and an avid sports enthusiast. He was also a philanthropist, donating to many causes in and around the Philadelphia area. John graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he would later donate significant funds to its museums. His passion for the environment saw him working with The Academy of Natural Sciences and The New York Botanical Garden, for which he served as the President of their Board of Trustees. John will be remembered for his immense contributions to the arts and sciences, as well as a life characterized by quiet generosity and a commitment to excel in all facets of life. He is survived by his sister Wendy, as well as multiple generations of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other extended family members.
