Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese artist, poet and philosopher, passed away on April 10, 1931 at the age of 48. Gibran was born in January 1883 in the small village of Bsharri in northern Lebanon. He moved with his family to the United States at the age of 12 and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. Gibran was best known for his works of literature and poetry, most famously "The Prophet", an essay-like philosophical work published in 1923 which became an international bestseller. His other works include "Sand and Foam", "The Vision", "The Broken Wings", and "Jesus, The Son of Man". He is also known for his drawings, essays, and sculptures. Gibran is remembered as one of the most influential figures of Arab literature in the 20th century. His works have been translated into numerous languages and his influence on the Arabic literary world has been lasting. Gibran is survived by his family, friends, and admirers. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his dedication to his craft and for his inspiring words which continue to help generations of readers.
