Luther Vandross, age 54, passed away on July 1, 2005. He was a celebrated songwriter, vocal arranger, singer, and producer, and, through his inspiring and heartfelt music, he captured the attention of music fans around the world. Vandross appeared frequently on the Billboard and Cashbox charts, with a total of seven chart topping albums. He was named one of Billboard Magazine's top 10 artists of the year and won 8 Grammy Awards throughout his career. Additionally, he worked with a variety of artists, including Mariah Carey, David Bowie, Barbra Streisand, and Aretha Franklin. He was known for his amazing vocal range, expressive sound, and popularity of his many classic recordings. He wrote, produced, and arranged many of his own songs, including some of his popular hits such as “Never Too Much,” “A House is Not a Home,” and “Here and Now.” Vandross will be greatly missed, remembered for his unforgettable music, and admired for his profound impact on the world of music. May he rest in peace.
