On the 9th of May 2013, Malcolm Shabazz, an activist, public speaker, and grandson of the late Malcolm X, passed away at 28 years old. He had made a positive impact on the political arena of many countries. Malcolm was born in 1984 in California and at the age of four, he moved to New York City to live with his grandparents. After attending John Jay High School, he enrolled at the San Francisco City College, and then pursued his higher education in Iran studying Islamic Studies. Malcolm was heavily involved in the political causes relating to African American liberation, economic justice, and tenants’ rights. He traveled the world to bring awareness to a variety of causes and to gain understanding on how to best assist in the progression of the oppressed. Malcolm’s activism and advocacy will be remembered by many. He was noted to have had a profound impact on the lives of many people and showed eagerness in working hard to make positive changes in society. He was a very inspiring and determined individual and he inspired others to fight for societal justice in their surrounding environments. He will be deeply missed.
