Mary Ann Mobley, an actress, spokesmodel, and beauty queen widely known for her performance in the 1959 film “Gidget Goes Hawaiian,” passed away on December 9, 2014, at the age of 77. Mobley was born in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1937. After participating in numerous beauty pageants and contests, she was crowned Miss America 1959, making her the first woman from Mississippi to be bestowed the honor. Throughout her lengthy career, Mobley appeared in films, television shows, stage plays, and video games. She was a frequent guest on game shows, including “Hollywood Squares” and “The Hollywood Game.” She made cameo appearances in various television series, including “Diff’rent Strokes,” “Fantasy Island,” and “CHiPs.” In addition to her acting credits, Mobley authored several books, and served as a spokeswoman for cosmetics giant CoverGirl and the House of Fabergé perfume network. She was also a board member for numerous charitable organizations, including World Vision, Hospice, and Ladies of Charity. Mobley was married to Dr. Donald K. Ross until her death. Mobley’s final film credit is a posthumous appearance in the 2015 horror movie “The Cross.” She is survived by her husband, and three children.
