McLean Stevenson

McLean Stevenson, 68, died on February 15, 1996. Born in Normal, Illinois, he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received an acting degree. Stevenson began his career in entertainment as a stand-up comedian, appearing on various TV shows in the 1960s, such as The Dinah Shore Chevy Show, The Dean Martin Show, and The Ed Sullivan Show. He landed his first important role on the sitcom The Nilman Show, which ran from 1964-65. Stevenson went on to appear in numerous films and television series throughout his career. He's best known for his portrayal of Colonel Henry Blake in the award-winning TV sitcom M*A*S*H, for which he won a Golden Globe in 1974. He was also featured in many television series, including Hello, Larry, and Adventure Inc. In addition, he wrote the script for and starred in the 1981 movie The Rankin Family. He is survived by his wife, five children, and four grandchildren.
