On 1894-12-03 00:00:00 UTC, Robert Louis Stevenson died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family. He was only 44 years old. Robert Louis Stevenson was a beloved author and poet, born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1850. He wrote such beloved works as “Treasure Island”, “Kidnapped” and “Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”, and his work was noted for exploring the psychological complexities of character. He also wrote travelogues and essays, composed many of his own poetry and published a number of short stories. Much of Stevenson’s work was inspired by his extensive travels. He explored Europe, America and the South Pacific for his writing, and even spent the last four years of his life on the island of Samoas. At the time of his death, Robert Louis Stevenson was a highly regarded and respected author. His works remain influential and popular to this day. He is survived by his wife, and two children.
