On the morning of June 11, 1936, Robert E. Howard, a beloved author and radio personality, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 30. Born in Peaster, Texas, Howard began his writing career in 1922 at the age of 17. His works were published in magazines which highlighted his talent for prose and his short stories were admired by those in the literary and entertainment industry. His most popular work was perhaps “Conan the Barbarian,” which despised by many for its perceived barbarism, but has had prevalence in popular culture. The machinations of his mind permanently inscribed in ink also produced other classic series like Solomon Kane, Bran Mak Morn, and Kull of Atlantis. He was also a radio personality, appearing on the fifth-episode of The National Vaudeville Show and featured on multiple radio shows. Howard was a fervent believer in racial issues, which often shined through his writings. His works have been influential to modern literature, inspiring authors in the horror and fantasy genres. His sudden and untimely departure comes as shock to the family and friends, and left a void in the writing community. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
