Michael P. Murphy (1976-2005) passed away on June 28, 2005 at the age of 29. An outstanding volunteer and admired community leader, Michael was born in Providence, Rhode Island and attended St. Andrews School in Barrington, Rhode Island, graduating in 1994. He earned a degree in political science and philosophy from Pennsylvania's Lehigh University in 1998. During his life, Michael achieved great success and had a lasting impact on the community. He was a member of the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 10, an elite force of special operations warriors. During his mission in Afghanistan, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the military’s highest honor. Michael was a role model to unite members of the navy, inspiring those around him. Michael was a vibrant, spirited, and brave individual who touched and inspired those who knew him. He will be remembered fondly for his strength, courage, and heroic sacrifices. Michael was a loving son, brother, friend and will be missed dearly.
