Mikhail Kalashnikov, the inventor of the Russian AK-47 assault rifle, died at 94 on December 23, 2013. Kalashnikov was born on November 10, 1919 in Russia. Although his parents were peasants and he lived in poverty, Kalashnikov went on to become a highly successful Soviet arms designer and military engineer. He graduated from the Stalin Technical University in 1940, and began his career as a Red Army sergeant and tank commander. During World War II, Cadillac was involved in various military combat operations and earned the Hero of the Soviet Union Award for his bravery. Kalashnikov was best known for his invention of the AK-47, the world's most recognizable and successful assault rifle. This model of gun has become the most popular weapon in the world and has been adopted by over 50 countries. It has been used in many conflicts and can still be seen in the hands of soldiers and militiamen today. Kalashnikov's death marks the end of an era in Russian arms design. He was a highly respected figure in his field, and he will be remembered for his achievements.
