Mitch Hedberg, 37, a stand-up comedian who earned a devoted fan base for his surreal, often nonsensical, one-liners, passed away on March 29, 2005. An adopted Minnesotan, Hedberg achieved widespread acclaim due to his unique style of joke delivery and comedy, which was rooted in observations of life and its idiosyncrasies. His fans were drawn to his wry, deadpan delivery and his often incomprehensible statements that nevertheless often made remarkably deep observations. His popular albums, Strategic Grill Locations and Mitch All Together, achieved cult status among audiophiles of comedy. Hedberg is survived by his wife, Lynn Shawcroft. His death was attributed to an accidental drug overdose. Though Hedberg's time in the limelight was short, his influence was outsized, and his comedy will continue to bring joy to those who experience it.
