Om Puri, 66, died January 6, 2017. The award winning Indian actor was known for his roles in some of Indian cinema's most widely lauded films and was a beloved figure in the film industry. Puri began his film career with a string of acclaimed performances in various Indian films in the 1970s and 1980s. His breakout role came in the 1982 classic film "Arohan". He went on to act in more than 300 Indian films throughout his 40-year career. He also won acclaim on the international stage, appearing in a diverse range of roles in films such as the British-Punjabi "East Is East", and the American films "City of Joy" and "Wolf". Puri was awarded numerous accolades throughout his career, including Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 1990. He also won three National Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards. He is survived by his wife, Nandita Puri; his son, Ishaan Puri; and countless admirers around the globe. His legacy will live on, remembered for his illustrious career and his acting ability which touched so many.
