On May 12th, 1994, Paul Cushing Child passed away at the age of 92. Paul was born on August 15th, 1901 in New York City. The son of Sydney Cushing and Jeanette Cushing, he had a privileged childhood and growing up was educated at the Hotchkiss School and later graduated from Harvard University in 1924. Paul was a distinguished artist and served in the U.S. State Department during World War II. He served as the United States representative at UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris. Paul was well-known for his last marriage to celebrated chef and author Julia Child, and for his move to France with her. He received numerous awards for his work as an American artist abroad, including a Medal of Honor from the French Legion of Honor. Paul will be remembered as a distinguished artist and diplomat who loved his wife and his life in France dearly. He is survived by his wife, Julia Child, and his brother, John M. Child of Bristol, CT.
