Paul W. Tibbets, Jr passed away on November 3rd, 2007 at the age of 92. A decorated military veteran, Tibbets joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1937, at the age of 22, rising to the rank of major general. During the Second World War, Tibbets achieved fame for piloting the B-29 Superfortress airplane "Enola Gay," which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, helping to bring the war to a successful conclusion. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 1950. He is survived by a wife, two children, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his service in the United States military.
