On Wednesday, September 17th, 2000, the world lost one of its brightest stars when Paula Yates died at the age of 41. A British television presenter, music journalist, author, and broadcast host, Yates was renowned for her independent spirit, sharp wit, and enthusiasm for discovering new music. She scored her first professional job in television in the mid-1970s aged just 17, interviewing artists on the music show 'Speakeasy'. She went on to present shows such as 'The Tube', 'The Big Breakfast' and 'The Party File'. Her career was highly successful, but her personal life was often tumultuous. In 1985 she married musician Bob Geldof, and together they had three children: Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches and Pixie. After separating from Geldof in 1995, Yates achieved international recognition when she subsequently married Michael Hutchence, who died a year later in 1997. Yates was a passionate and enduring art advocate and had an ability to communicate topics such as art and fashion with evidence of both intelligence and cultural acumen. She will be remembered fondly as a compelling media personality and prolific media figure who sought out the best of the cultural world and made it her own.

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Mark Twain
