On January 4, 1986, Phillip Parris Lynott, widely known as Phil Lynott, passed away at the age of 36. Phil Lynott, born August 20, 1949 in London, England, was a renowned musician, known best as the founder and frontman of the popular rock band Thin Lizzy. He began his career in show business as a young actor at the age of eight, and he moved to Ireland shortly thereafter with his grandmother. His musical career began in earnest in the 1960s as an emerging soul and blues musician, and his career reached its height as frontman of Thin Lizzy, who went on to release nine albums and earn one Grammy nomination from 1971-1983. As a solo artist, Lynott released such popular albums as Solo in Soho and The Philip Lynott Album, and he wrote and recorded the hits "Old Town" and "Yellow Pearl". A passionate fan of literature, he was also a published poet in 1988's Adventures of a Waterboy. Characterized by his powerful singing voice, excellent songwriting ability, and unwavering commitment to the music, Lynott was admired both in the industry and among devoted fans. His contributions to rock music history and larger Irish culture are immeasurable, leaving an impressive and lasting legacy.
