Phyllis Diller, trailblazing comedic icon, died on August 20, 2012 at 95 years old. A performer since the 1950s, Diller was a celebrated standup comedian known for her wild appearances, wild hairdos, and outrageous outfits. She was the first woman to break into the comedic industry and the first female to headline with Las Vegas top shows. Before becoming a professional comedian, Diller had a long list of notable jobs. She worked as a copywriter for a radio advertising agency, sang in a band, and was a Lambuth University music professor. Diller became well-known for her marriage sketches, often poking fun at her husband "Fang" and her lazy housecleaning skills. She released several comedy records and featured in a number of movies and television shows, most notably alongside Bob Hope in "Eight on the Lam". Diller was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the National Comedy Hall of Fame. She was an inspiration to many comedians of the 21st century, and her legacy will continue to live on. She is survived by her children, two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
