It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton, age 62, on March 16, 2009. Popcorn was a well-respected moonshiner who had been producing illegal whiskey since the 1970s in East Tennessee. Popcorn was well-known in his area as a folk hero who often shared his recipes for white whiskey, taffy, and apple pies. In spite of his notoriety, Popcorn was a family man who treasured his wife and daughter. He was a gentle soul, loved by many and remembered for his good-natured attitude and courteous manner. Popcorn will be remembered for his work in preserving the heritage of moonshining, as well as his charisma, humor, and determination to live life on his own terms. Popcorn is survived by his wife Pam Sutton, daughter Dale Ann, and numerous relatives. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
