On June 6, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy passed away at the youthful age of 42. Robert was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on November 20, 1925, as the seventh child of Rose and Joseph Kennedy. A dedicated public servant, Robert's career spanned FROM 1952-67. He worked as counsel on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, was the聽U.S. Attorney General聽from 1961-64, and then ran unsuccessfully for the聽Democratic presidential nomination in 1968. Robert was an outspoken advocate for human rights, serving on the U.S. Civil Rights Commission from 1957-60, and voting for the 1964 Civil Rights Act. As a member of the Senate from 1965-68, he focused on economic disparities, poverty, and civil rights. He strongly opposed the Vietnam War and worked for improved relations with the聽Soviet Union. Robert was also deeply committed to his family. He was the loving husband of Ethel Kennedy, and the father of 11 children, the last of whom was born after his death. He will be remembered for his enormous contributions to public service, his commitment to human rights, and his unwavering dedication to family & friends. He will be deeply missed.
