Shemp Howard, born Samuel Horwitz in 1895 in Manhattan, New York, died Thursday, November 22, 1955 at the age of 60. Shemp was known as an American vaudeville actor and comedian. He first appeared on stage at the age of 3, when he made his debut with his brothers in the family act "The Three Horwitz Troupe". Shemp began his solo career in 1915 and during his career worked alongside such well-known acts as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. He gained notability for his work as the fourth Stooge in the comedy team The Three Stooges. Shemp's television career spanned from 1945 to 1955 and he authored several books on show business in 1954. Shemp Howard is remembered for his hilarious comedy career and is survived by his many fans.
