Shirley Jackson (1916-1965) passed away in Bennington, Vermont on September 8th, 1965 at the age of 48. Shirley was a renowned author and screenwriter, best known for her iconic work in horror and dark fiction. She wrote numerous bestselling novels including The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and countless short stories such as "The Lottery", one of the most recognizable works of twentieth century literature. Additionally, she wrote two Broadway plays, and received wide acclaim for her script adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House. In her 48 years, Shirley made an indelible mark on the literary world and will be remembered by readers and authors alike. Rest in peace, Shirley.
