Veronica Lake, born Constance Frances Marie Ockelman in Brooklyn, New York on November 14, 1922, passed away on July 7, 1973 in Burlington, Vermont at the age of 50. Veronica had a successful career in Hollywood, beginning with her debut in Sullivan's Travels (1941). She had leading roles in numerous films such as I Wanted Wings (1941), This Gun for Hire (1942), So Proudly We Hail! (1943), and The Blue Dahlia (1946). Her popularity was in part due to her signature hairstyle—peek-a-boo bangs over her right eye. In addition to her work in film, Veronica had a steady career in television, which began in 1958 and lasted until the early 1970s. She also branched out into writing, publishing her memoir, Veronica: The Autobiography of Veronica Lake, in 1970. Veronica will be remembered fondly by her friends and fans the world over and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
