Vin Scully, the legendary Hall of Fame Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster, died on August 2, 2022, at the age of 94. Scully was an institution in baseball broadcasting for 67 years, bringing his distinctive voice to life for generations of fans. Scully was born in The Bronx in 1927 and gained fame with the Dodgers as the team moved to Los Angeles in 1958. He became renowned for his story-telling and poetic phraseology, and received the Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982. Over the years his calls of baseball action were heard around the world, from Dodger Stadium to nationally televised World Series games. Scully covered, by his own estimate, over 6,500 Dodgers games, 25 no-hitters and three World Series championships. Scully was also a part of television broadcasts for NBC, ABC and CBS. In San Francisco he received the Martin E. Sheridan Award in 1977 for journalistic excellence. Vin Scully was a giant in sports broadcasting, whose influence and vocal skill changed the way audiences heard and experienced baseball. He was adored by everyone from everyday fans at the team's stadium to Presidents, Commissioner and fellow announcers. His passing is mourned by all fans who knew him as the voice of the Dodgers, filling their lives with beautiful play-by-play and his special enthusiasm.
