Wilford Brimley, a beloved actor, passed away on August 1, 2020, at the age of 85. Brimley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1934. He began his professional career as a ranch hand and wrangler, but went on to find success in Hollywood. He made his on-screen debut in 1970’s The Rebel Rousers, and worked steadily throughout the decade, starring in films such as The China Syndrome and Brubaker. In the 1980s, Brimley gained global notoriety from his roles in films such as Cocoon, The Natural, and The Firm. In television, he was best known for portraying the cantankerous Ben Cartwright on the show Our House. In later life, Brimley appeared in films such as Seabiscuit and The Gambler and in TV commercials for products such as Quaker Oats and Liberty Medical. Brimley was married to Beverly Berry from 1960 to 2000, and the couple had two children. Brimley’s long career spanned more than five decades and included nearly 100 roles—both major and minor—across film and television. His longevity and iconic status as an actor made him a beloved figure in the entertainment industry. He will be remembered as a talented and accomplished entertainer.
