Alice Coltrane, a pioneering composer and multi-instrumentalist, passed away on January 12, 2007 at the age of 69. Alice, born in Detroit, Michigan, was an exceptional musician and composer. She received her earliest training as a classical pianist, and was mentored by legendary figures such as John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. Her music incorporated a variety of genres, including jazz, Indian classical, and Western classical. Alice began her career in the 1950s, performing alongside famed jazz musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Burrell, and Paul Chambers. Her extensive discography, covering a span of nearly four decades, included a number of critically acclaimed albums, including her solo efforts, "Universal Consciousness", "Lord of Lords", and "Translinear Light". Beyond music, Alice was devoted to spiritualism, and founded the Sai Anantam Ashram in 1983, near Malibu, California. Alice's influence on the music genre continues to inspire aspiring artists. Her creativity helped to revolutionize modern music and will be long remembered.
