Carlo Gambino, known as "Don Carlo", passed away on October 15th, 1976 at the age of 74. Carlo was born in Palermo, Italy in 1902 and immigrated to the United States with his family shortly after World War I. After moving to New York, Carlo began his long and influential criminal career as part of the Sicilian Mafia. He climbed through the ranks by working his way up with Lucky Luciano's Mafia, eventually becoming the head of his own crime family. During his reign, Carlo was known as one of the most powerful Mafia bosses of all time. He earned a reputation for being fiercely independent and was credited with forming close relationships with police and other authorities. Throughout his career, Carlo expanded the family's real estate operations and added extortion and gambling to their criminal activities. He was a shrewd businessman as well as one of the top figures in the American Mafia. Carlo is survived by his wife, Fay, and four children, Thomas, Joseph, Salvatore, and Catherine. He will be remembered fondly by his family and the extended mafia family as an influential leader. Carlo's legacy will live on in the criminal underworld and beyond.
