On December 7, 2016, the world lost a witty humorist and civil campaigner when Cho Ramaswamy passed away at the age of 82. Throughout his career he used his skills as a humorist, playwright, actor and political commentator, along with his charisma and insight, to make an impact on those around him. Ramaswamy was born in 1934 in Mysore, India. He graduated with a degree in law in 1959 from the Central Institute of Educational Research and Training, and began writing satirical plays, which have since become some of India’s longest-running stage shows. He also wrote several books, started a magazine, and was one of the editors of the Tamil political weekly Thuglaq. Throughout his life, Ramaswamy showed a keen interest in politics, civil campaigning and social issues, and was a fervent supporter of BJP politics, often criticizing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party in his plays. He was an influential columnist, often writing for prestigious magazines including Indian Express and Swatantra, and also frequently appeared in television shows and feature films to exhibit his humor. Ramaswamy is remembered for his commitment to the people of India, constantly raising his voice on behalf of them, as well as for his dedication to the world of entertainment and comedy. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
