With profound grief and sorrow, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of M. G. Ramachandran at the age of 70. M. G. Ramachandran was a renowned Indian film and political icon. His career in the film industry spanned over five decades, during which he produced, directed and acted in over 130 films in his native Tamil language. One of his most successful productions, ‘Nadodi Mannan’, remains a cult classic. He ventured into politics in 1972, when he founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party and was later elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 1977. An advocate of Tamil nationalism, he worked to establish the Tamil language as the official language of the state. He also implemented numerous social reforms, such as government intervention in matters of education and health. He passed away on December 29th, 1987, leaving behind his legacy of social reform and his significant impact in the film and political spheres of Indian culture. He will be remembered and loved by many who shared his vision of a better world.
