It is with great sorrow that the family of legendary Indian actor, director, and producer Krishna Ghattamaneni announced his passing at 79 years old, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. Srimannarayana Pragada Krishna Ghattamaneni, fondly known to his fans and the Indian film industry as "Superstar" Krishna, rose to fame in the 1970s before becoming a prominent figure in the South Indian film industry. Raised in a family of film stars, Krishna debuted as a child actor before going on to act in over 300 films in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages. His performance as Rama in Pandava Vanavasam in 1965 earned him his first Filmfare Award at 9 years old. Krishna went on to make 175 films in Telugu language alone, making him one of South India’s leading film stars. He earned numerous accolades, including the Padmashri, the NTR Award and Raghupathy Venkaiah Award for his contributions to the Telugu Film industry. Alongside his acting career, Krishna also stepped behind the camera to direct several films and produce films at his home studio. Krishna was born in Ida, Machilipatnam, Madras Presidency on May 31, 1943, to Ghattamaneni Sheshadri. He was the eldest of seven children. He attended Waltair High School, and later an Italian school, but dropped out before receiving his degree. Krishna is survived by his son Rama Ghattamaneni, daughter Manjula Ghattamaneni, and five granddaughters. His wife Indira Devi passed away in 2007. He was predeceased by his brother Rajagopal and his sister Bhavani Devi. His immense contribution to the Indian film industry will not be forgotten. He will be remembered for his vibrant performances, his entertaining films, and his ability to bring laughter and joy to his fans.
