It is with heavy hearts that the family of Denis Thatcher announces his passing on 26 June 2003, at the age of 88. Denis was an entrepreneur, businessman and member of the House of Lords. He married Margaret Thatcher in 1951, and the couple had two children. Having built a career in the petroleum industry, Denis retired in 1975, but maintained a busy schedule through his position as husband to Lady Thatcher during her time as Prime Minister. He also served as an adviser to many companies in the fields of energy and aviation. Though never overly keen on the public image his wife’s career created for him, Denis was an unwavering support for Lady Thatcher. After she resigned in 1990, the Thatchers made many foreign trips together. He revelled in patronising British clubs and was renowned for his wit and gift of storytelling. Denis will be remembered fondly by his family and many friends.
