Dolours Price, a political activist and prominent figure in the Irish Republican movement, passed away on January 23, 2013 at the age of 62. Born on December 16, 1950 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Price grew up in a family deeply involved in the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the nationalist cause. She followed in their footsteps and joined the IRA at a young age, participating in several bombings and attacks against British targets. In 1973, Price and her sister Marian were arrested and convicted for their involvement in a bombing of the Old Bailey courthouse in London. They were sentenced to life in prison, but were released in 1980 as part of a prisoner swap between the British government and the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA). After her release, Price continued to be an active participant in the Republican movement and was a vocal advocate for Irish independence and the rights of political prisoners. She also became an outspoken critic of the Irish peace process and the role of Sinn Fein, the political wing of the IRA. Despite facing criticism and controversy for her political views and actions, Price remained dedicated to her cause and continued to speak out until her death at the age of 62. She leaves behind a legacy of fierce determination and unwavering commitment to the Republican movement. Dolours Price will be remembered as a fearless and influential figure in Irish history, whose actions and beliefs played a significant role in shaping the country's political landscape. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and those who were touched by her passion and activism. May she rest in peace.
