With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Edith Pretty, who passed away on December 17, 1942 at the age of 59. Edith was born on April 7, 1883 in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England. She was a successful businesswoman and a lifelong lover of antiquities. In 1922 she married Leonard Pretty and together they went on to own and manage the Creeks Farm Estate in Sutton, Suffolk. Edith was best remembered for her long association with the tumulus known as Sutton Hoo. She was the last private landowner prior to its archaeological excavation, and the entire project was done at her own expense. Edith Pretty will be truly missed by her 2 children, Mark and Robert, her friends, and family. She will also be remembered by those who have studied her work and legacy.
