Elvis Presley, an American icon, passed away at the age of 42, on August 16th, 1977 in Memphis Tennessee. Born in Tupelo Mississippi, Elvis first rose to fame in 1954 as a singer, but within a few years had become the embodiment of a rock-and-roll lifestyle. His music, with hits such as "Heartbreak Hotel," "Jailhouse Rock" and "Love me Tender," earned him a lasting place in history and remains influential to this day. His success in the music industry only rocketed from there, and he starred in many hit films starting with 1956's "Love Me Tender." He also had a five-year run as a star of the "Las Vegas Strip," was awarded three Grammy Awards, and became one of the first artists to be inducted as a solo performer into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame. His death, at so young an age, is a shock to all who knew and loved him. Elvis impacted generations of people around the world and will be remembered by all for his larger-than-life personality and immense talent.
