Eugene O'Neill, an American playwright and Nobel Laureate, passed away on November 27, 1953, at 65 years old. Born in New York City in 1888, O'Neill was the son of an actor and a singer. He attended Princeton University, but left after only one semester. O'Neill found success with his first play, "Beyond the Horizon," which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1920. O'Neill continued to write and produce plays throughout his career and became one of the most renowned dramatists of his generation. His works include the famous plays "Anna Christie," "The Emperor Jones," "Desire Under the Elms," and "Mourning Becomes Electra." He earned the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1936. O'Neill was known to draw upon his own experiences and family strife in his works. He is survived by his wife and children. He will be remembered for his contribution to the world of literature and drama.
