Farouk I of Egypt, son of Fuad I, died on March 18th, 1965 at the age of 45. He was known for his commitment to the advancement of Egypt, most notably for his work in the reforms of the Suez Canal and the Cairo-Alexandria railway. Farouk came to the throne in 1936 at the age of 16. During his reign, he sought to strengthen Egypt through modernisation and infrastructure improvements, while still respect the social and cultural values of the country. He adopted a pro-British stance in light of World War II, allowing British troops to remain in Suez, while also adopting a friendly attitude towards the Arab states of the Middle East. However, his reign ended in 1952 following a military coup d'état, which overthrew the Farouk dynasty. After his abdication, Farouk spent the remainder of his life in exile. His early death at 45 brought his turbulent reign to an untimely conclusion. He will be remembered for his commitment to modernisation and infrastructure improvements, which shaped the nation of Egypt for generations to come. He will be deeply missed.

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. Washington Irving
