George Burns was born on January 20, 1896, in New York City. He began his career as a musician and vaudeville performer, becoming one of the most successful entertainers in the world. He later transitioned to film and television, appearing in countless productions in both mediums. Burns was well known for his trademark cigar smoking and rapid-fire delivery of jokes. He was also one of the most successful comedians of all time, winning numerous awards including a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a Grammy. Burns died on March 9, 1996, at the age of 100.
